Hotel operators are eager to move suites and rooms on executive floors, which are the most expensive, so many have slashed rates, trained clerks to sell upgrades at check-in and offered enticements to fill the rooms. The economic downturn has been particularly tough on luxury hotels and suites that fetch top dollar, especially as business travelers can no longer upgrade with ease. Hotel occupancy is starting to rebound. But the rate of recovery has been slow to return to pre-downturn levels. |
