Perched on a rocky tidal island, Lindisfarne Castle offers a series of paths and trackways which uncover the area’s fascinating industrial past. The National Trust offers a step-by-step guide.

The network of trackways and wagonways (which also stretch across the island) and the fast-disappearing wooden jetty allow walkers to tread where the lime kiln workers once did.
