The Hay Adams Hotel was bought in the 1930's by hotel magnate Julius Manger. During the depression I have sought to increase his holdings hostelry in the U.S. capital city of Washington DC which he felt was a safe investment. Mr. Manger was primarily a New York City hotel owner who owned 18 hotels in NYC including the St Regis, Peninsula and the Sherry Netherland located opposite The Plaza. Julius Manger bought the Adams where he resided there until his death in 1937. The Hay-Adams Hotel is said to be haunted by Henry Adams' beloved wife "Clover," who died by her own hand in 1885. She has been seen hugging Housekeepers or calling out names.
