Gran Caribe Real Hotel closed by officials for stolen sand

Tourists are shocked when they knew that a narrow piece of Cancun beach was closed down. The Gran Caribe Real Hotel was closed by environment enforcement officers and navy personnel on Thursday July 30, 2009.

The Gran Caribe Real Hotel accused of illegally accumulating sand on its beach. In 2005 Mexican government spent $19 million to replace that beaches when Hurricane Wilma washed away Cancun beaches. But much of this sand washed away from the sea floor, many property owners build breakwaters in a bid to retain sand. Patricio Patron who is Mexico’s attorney general for environmental protection told that they made the decision to close that stretch of ill-gotten, illegally accumulated sand.
