PlayStation 3 Slim backwards compatibility

What is PlayStation 3 Slim releaase date ? Does PS 3 Slim have backwards compatibility? Well from official announcement, The PlayStation 3 Slim is coming this September(Exact date is not still declared), and it does not have backwards compatibility.

Wiil it possible to play PS2 games on these first-gen PS3 Slims?

The PS3 was already able to emulate the Emotion Engine, as the 1st 80 GB proved. The problem is emulating the Graphics Synthesizer chip. A patent filing was released to the public a couple weeks ago regarding Graphics Synthesizer emulation. All PS3s would obviously be able to use it if Sony could really get such a firmware to work. However, I would not expect such a firmware to be releaed until Sony discontinues the PS2 console, which doesn't look like will happen until at least early next year. More information given at scrawlfx.
