New PlayStation 3 (PS3) Firmware Update Version 2.60
The PS3, like the Xbox 360, is no stranger to the firmware updates. In fact, the PS3 is probably the most frequently, such as Microsoft Xbox 360, in general, sees bigger Dashboard updates on a quarterly basis. The next PS3 firmware update, version 2.60, includes a lot of new features designed to improve the overall attractiveness of the PS3 as an entertainment piece of hardware.
Most notable of the PS3 software update 2.60 available today is a new photo gallery application that allows PS3 owners to organize and view photos stored on a PS3. The firmware update will also support DivX 3.11 and PlayStation Store invited navigation.
Through the implementation of the new photo gallery, digital photos can be organized into groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the date and time, and even hide such things as the colors the photos and the number, age and facial expressions of the people pictured.
Once in a group, the photos can be arranged as slide shows, which are set to music. As regards support DivX 3.11, the update will allow PS3 owners to see DivX media files in that format, which is very popular due to its ability to compress large video files while maintaining relatively high visual quality.
