The 11,500-year-old cremated remains of prehistoric child (Ice Age child) have been discovered in Tanana Valley of Alaska. The discovered human remains are anticipated to be about three year old child and it is second youngest ice-age child who found from the continent of Alaska. The team of University of Alaska Fairbanks has studied on Ice Age people, their new remains discovery would be very unusual hint into their study. The news of Ice Age remains’ discovery of University of Alaska Fairbanks’ team including archeologist Ben Potter and four colleagues was published in the journal Science on Friday. The pristine human’s cremated remains are discovered from the site close to the Tanana River of central Alaska and some of the oldest from North America. To estimate the age of child from remains, the researchers used radiocarbon dating method of wood at the site and found out that the child was cremated before 11,500 years whilst a land bridge may have joined Alaska with Asia. Researchers named the little child on the basis of local native place name, Xaasaa Cheege Ts'eniin that means "Upward Sun River Mouth Child." According to study, researchers described a possible sequence for how the remains came at the site. They hypothesized that the 3 year old child lived in a tent-pole house with family possibly with the parents. His or her parents rested his or her body in their cooking pit and then set on fire. Charcoal describes that a fire was built on top of child’s body. The child’s parents covered remains with dirt after 2-3 hours of burning and left. The leader of archaeologists investigating team, Ben Potter from University of Alaska at Fairbanks said that the cremation during the old time was taken place in the hearth. During the excavation trench at the Alaskan site, the researchers also discovered a small house with a cooking area and traces of food together with salmon. Researchers are discovering about the life colonizer who moved from Asia to the New World from the research site. |
