The famous French auto maker Renault is planning to bring a small 800cc car for the Indian market. As per recent reports, the development work on this project has already been started under the leadership of Gerard Detourbet, who is known as ‘the father of entry car programmes. Currently, the car is code named as ‘A Entry’ and it will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan’s plant situated near Oragadam, Chennai. Even though, there is no official word yet regarding the exact launch date of the new small car, but most likely it would hit the Indian roads by late 2014 or early 2015. Renault’s new ‘A Entry’ car is being developed by keeping in mind the necessities of the emerging markets like India. Other international markets in which Renault is planning to launch this car include Russia, Brazil, Indonesia, and Africa. The Company is currently working on the development of a new 800cc petrol engine which has been code named as ‘B4A’. The main purpose behind the construction of new engine is to get a mileage figure of around 24kmpl to 26kmpl i.e. an average of at least 20kmpl in normal driving conditions. Other than this, there is no proper info about the exterior and interior of the upcoming car. The only thing for sure is that the Renault is trying their level best to make this new entrant of small car segment equally good in performance and quality, so that it can beat the tough competition prevailing in the small car market. At present, around 40-45% of total Indian auto market is ruled by already popular entry level cars like Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto, and Chevrolet Spark. All of these cars come in a price range of Rs.1.5 lakh to Rs.4 lakh and so we can expect that Renault will also launch the new small 800cc car within the same affordable price range. |
