Onyx, the Chinese e-reader manufacturer has created a prototype smartphone named Onyx E-ink. The device is an Android powered phone that will feature e-ink display. According to the company, the battery life of the all new device will last up to 6 to 7 days on a single charge, which is really good for an Android phone. In general, the e-ink display provides longer battery life on smartphones. Another advantage of E ink display is that it reduces the weight of the device when compared to other displays such as Super AMOLED. It is anticipated that the device will be launched in the next year. The phone uses technology which is mostly found on the e-book readers like the non-tablet edition of Barnes & Noble’s e-reader and the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. The device will feature a rectangular body, and it will weigh less than 100 grams. Onyx E-ink is expected to be powered by an ARM Cortex-A5 processor. The smartphone will sport a monochrome display, which means that the device won’t show any colors. The screen of the phone will always remain On and it looks even brighter when it’s brought into sunlight. The users will be able to read comfortably in the sunlight. Plus, it will have a SIM card slot on the side allowing the users to make calls. |
