HTC Desire set for HD upgrade in October

HTC’s Desire handset is likely to be updated in October, a number of sources have indicated. The phone is frequently touted as the closest thing Google’s Android operating system has to a real Apple iPhone rival, and while the new version does not appear to offer a processor upgrade, it looks set to ship with the newer version of Android, 2.2, and an improved camera, up to 8mp from 5mp.

According to a Chinese leak, the new version would also be slightly larger, offering a 4.3” touchscreen rather than the current version’s 3.7”. It would offer HD video playback as well as 720p video capture.
