Zinc is crucial to brain signalling, but too much could cause seizures

Zinc plays an important role in memory and cellular growth. A structural component of proteins, zinc is used in countless processes like from gene expression to immune function. But too much zinc can be toxic and also cause Alzheimer's disease. Brain needs some amount of mineral to work properly but the excessive use of mineral could cause seizures. To know the communication channel of brain, scientists have used a chemical that removes the Zinc from the circulation. After this research, scientists have found that the communication between neurons was damaged without Zinc. So it is essential to communicate between neurons in the hippocampus with proper amount of zinc.

Zinc is crucial to brain signalling, but too much could cause seizures

In the brain, it transforms the action of chemical messenger and also it helps to increase memory. Zinc also helps to control the discharge of insulin from pancreatic cells in replying to varying blood sugar levels. Zinc is essential for managing the efficiency between two neurons in the hippocampus, the memory and learning centre of the brain. The over communication between neurons due to excessive zinc could cause ‘epilepsy’ that is a brain disorder. It indicates that there is connection between epileptic seizures and zinc.
