Vaginal Dryness Cause, Symptoms & Treatment with Home Remedies

Every woman in the world suffers from vaginal dryness because of menopause. Your chance of having vaginal dryness increases once you reach menopausal stage.

Due to reduction in estrogen production, the vaginal wall will become dry and thin thus causing your vagina to get dry. Estrogen level falls down because of menopause, cigarette smoking and during the process of childbirth and breastfeeding. Vaginal dryness causes problems in your sex life. You will now feel pain while having sexual intercourse. Aside from pain, you will also feel itching and burning that can be very irritating in the vaginal area.

Causes of Vaginal Dryness:

Older women or those who are having menopause are not the only women who suffer from vaginal dryness. It can also be a problem of women who had cancer medication. Yeast infection and vaginal bacterial infection are also factors that cause vaginal dryness. Scented soap and shampoos affect vaginal dryness as well.

Signs and Symptoms of Vaginal Dryness:

  • You will experience dryness, of course
  • There would be itching in your vagina
  • There is a burning sensation inside your vagina as well
  • You can feel pain and bleeding, usually light bleeding when having sexual intercourse.
  • There would be urinary frequency and urgency

Home Remedies for Vaginal Dryness?

There are many ways in which you can solve the problems of having vaginal dryness without consulting your doctor. Some of the ways are as follows:

  • Drink plenty of water. Drinking at 8-10 glasses of water daily would really help you a lot. Include this in your daily routine.
  • You can also make use of water-based lubricants
  • Avoid scented soaps and shampoos.
  • Use cotton underwear only to help in proper air circulation
  • Do not apply any chemicals in your vagina. Chemicals like powder or spray are should be avoided. Applying Vitamin E oil is not included. It is actually useful to avoid vaginal dryness.
  • You should also avoid bubble baths.
  • You can either eat yogurt or apply directly in your vagina. When applying yogurt in your vagina, use the one without fruits and make sure that it is non-flavored or simply plain. Another thing to remember is to choose yogurt product that has “live cultures” written on the label.
  • You should avoid douching
  • You can use vaginal moisturizers too.
  • Consumption of soybeans and soy products could also be useful

If having sexual intercourse, you may ask your partner to use lubricated condoms or you may use vaginal lubricants. Talk to him about your situation so that you both can help each other. There is nothing wrong in asking him to help you in treating your vaginal dryness.

If home remedies or treatment are not effective, that is the time you can see your doctor. If you have vaginal itching, burning and soreness and you have already done self medications but it seems that there is improvement, it would be better to consult your doctor instead of continuing yourself medications.
