H1N1 No H1N1 case for 2 days in a row, first time in 6 months

For the first time in six months not a single case of H1N1 virus has been reported at Sassoon General Hospital in last two days. There has been a positive drop in the number of cases at the government hospital.

According to National Institute of Virology (NIV) Deputy Director Dr M S Chadda, the positivity of transmission is certainly less than earlier. The reason may be seasonal change in the weather or increasing immunity among people who have been exposed to the virus. The apex institute that has tested more than thousand cases said there is a dip in the number of cases being sent from all over Maharashtra.

According to Dr Arun Jamkar, dean B J Medical College and Sassoon Hospital, the government ICU has always been flooded with patients but now there are no patients on the ventilator. Dr Uddhav Gawhande, deputy director of health, said only 30 cases were reported in the entire district. Dr Pradip Awate, in-charge of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project of Maharashtra, said there were only 8-10 cases being reported from various parts of the state on a daily basis.

Our surveillance measures will continue and the screening of people with swine flu-like symptoms will be done as part of preparedness for another wave of H1N1 virus,” Gawhande said. While 10.35 lakh people were screened for the virus, a total of 2,759 people tested positive in Pune district and 171 deaths were registered in the city. Out of 171, 25 patients were from other cities but were undergoing treatment in the city.
