New Way to Stop Snoring by Sticking Plaster on Lip

A new sensor device, sticking plaster have been developed by researchers to tackle the problem of snoring. As per developers of this device, Sticking plaster is fixed on the top lip of patients to monitor their breathing when this device notices a snore, a short burst of sound is sent by it through a small earpiece, which is placed in the patient’s ear and the snoring is stopped by this without actually waking the patient. During sleep, Snoring takes place when the upper airways collapse and the airflow is stopped for up to 10 seconds at a time. Hundred events of this kind can be happened in night.

Sticking plaster has been developed for people, who are suffering from sleep apnoea. The reason of snoring is vibrations of the excess tissue in the upper airway. The deficiency of air directs to a drop in blood oxygen levels, and the brain responds by momentarily waking the sleeper to constrict the throat muscles, which opens the windpipe and clears the airways. Sleep apnoea is caused by obesity, loss of muscle tone with ageing, diabetes, high blood pressure, an increased risk of stroke, and even depression. In Mayo clinic, presently this new lip device is being tested on 125 people.
