National training program, national medicare training program, national training infrastructure program

The Indian Academy of Pediatrics launched its first national training program on parenting, focused on Adolescent Behavior and Parenting Skills.

This training has been put together by fourteen national pioneers in child health and aims to help address issues related to child development due to the changing attitudes in society, problems of current social structure of Indian families, radical changes in educational system and stress of competition & expectations of parents versus child performance

India adds close to 27 million children to its population ever year and 20 - 30 % of them face difficulty in school ranging from mild behavioral or emotional problems to ADHD, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disability and Autism. However, the bigger challenge is the lack of time amongst parents for children which is causing serious development related issues among children.

The only remedy is to train the school teachers and doctors in the best possible manner to be sensitive and aware of these issues. The module covers topics like discipline, media literacy, interpersonal relationships, behavioral problems during adolescence, substance and drug abuse, issues of sexuality and unique experiences of parents and teachers. This training will assist teachers, doctors and parents to address problems related to adolescent medicine, child growth and development, disability prevention and child psychology.
