How Multivitamins damage health of women?

In America, people spend nearly $27 billion on supplements yearly. This love affair of Americans with dietary supplements may come to an end as study after study revealed that dietary supplements cause harm to their health instead of improving. As per recent study, women who take multivitamins have higher death risk compared to other women who get nutrients from food alone. This study is published in Archives of Internal Medicine.

How Multivitamins damage heath of women?

The study involved over 38,000 women above the age of 55 years for more than 19 years. The study found that women who took multivitamins with zinc, folic acid, vitamin B6, magnesium, and copper had 2.4% increased risk of death while women who took multivitamins with iron had 3.9% higher risk which is the worst result from all other supplements.

From all the 15 supplements, the researchers found that calcium supplement users had about 10% lower risk of death. As per researchers, multivitamins damage the health when they are taken in excess amount. Excess amount makes them toxic instead of therapeutic. Most multivitamins does not have any positive effect on the health of women and does not protect older women from cancer, heart disease or diabetes, as per researchers. Most excellent way to get all the essential vitamins is to consume well-balanced diet.
