Effective Remedies To Treat Athletes Foot

Have you ever experienced itching and flaking in between your toes and around your feet? If so, then you have symptoms of Athletes foot. Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection which causes scaling, itching and flaking of the skin on its affected areas. It is transmitted in moist areas where people walk barefoot (showers, bathhouses, carpets, surface of swimming pools, saunas, locker rooms, etc.). Commonly found on the feet, this infection can spread its way to other parts of the body. Wearing damp socks and tight shoes that have little or almost no breathing room are the main contributor to the fungi’s survival and spread. These Athletes foot fungus infection can be easily treated but given the same conditions, it has a tendency to come back.

- If possible, do not share your shoes, socks and towels with others in your home or with someone that is infected
- Disinfect your shower stall on a daily basis
- All bed linens, underwear, socks, towels and the like should be washed thoroughly and must be done in hot water no less than 140 degrees. Doing so would kill the fungi.
- Observe proper hygiene
- After taking a bath or swim, dry your feet thoroughly
- Wear sandals or flip-flops at a public pool or showers, at saunas at places where athletes foot is very common
- Change your socks often to keep your feet dry (should be done daily or twice a day)
- Wear well ventilated shoes. Preferably the ones which are made of natural materials such as leather.
- Daily alternation of shoes can help. Doing so, they can dry completely between wearing.
- Avoid plastic-lined shoes.

Athlete’s foot remedies:

1. Athlete’s Foot Powders – Allow your feet to air-dry for around 5 to 10 minutes after a shower before putting on your pair of socks and shoes. Then apply powder. (To avoid the mess of loose powder, place it in a plastic or paper bag, then put your foot into the bag and shake it well.) This will help keep the foot dry and prevent the fungi from becoming a problem. Many powder products are readily available to use for athlete’s foot treatment.

2. Athlete’s Foot Cream - When used properly creams is sufficient in athlete’s foot treatment. Try these athlete’s foot creams, but make sure you follow the instructions carefully (Lamisil, Lotrimin).

3. Remove dead skin – When your fungus has settled in its acute phase, you have to exfoliate and remove any dead skin for they are housing the living fungi. Thoroughly scrub your feet while taking a bath (a small bottle brush or test-tube brush may be used there).
