Cholesterol lowering Foods

Do you want a diet to lower cholesterol? We all know that butter, ice cream, and fatty meats raise cholesterol, but do you know which foods make up a low-cholesterol diet? A diet including things like soy protein and nuts lowers LDL or 'bad' cholesterol more than statin drugs or a low-fat diet, a study finds.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that people who ate a healthy diet filled with cholesterol-lowering foods experienced a 13 percent decrease in their LDL cholesterol levels.  In fact, the authors assert, levels of LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, can drop to half that seen by many patients who take statins, sold under such names as Lipitor, Crestor or Zocor. That could drive down a person's risk of fatal heart attack or stroke by 10%, the authors suggested.
