So, it becomes necessary to improve the quality of sleep. Cherry juice is the best drink for getting a quality night's sleep. New study by the researchers from the School of Life Sciences at Northumbria University have found that drinking a particular type of cherry juice, the Montmorency cherry drink can help us in better sleep as it increases the levels of hormone melatonin in the body, which regulates the sleep. If you're fractional to a bedtime nightcap, drink cherry juice and get better sleep. In the study, 20 healthy participants were involved who were given a 30ml of cherry juice or a placebo beverage two times a day for a week and fitted with an Actigraphy watch sensor to monitor their sleep and wake patterns. Their urine samples were collected and inspected for the levels of melatonin. Researchers found that volunteers who drank the cherry juice have a 15% increase of urinary melatonin. Watching at the actigraphy sensor results, the researchers discovered that cherry drinkers improved their sleep time by around 25 minutes and their sleep efficiency by 6 percent. The findings would surely benefit to those people who have trouble sleeping because of insomnia, jet lag or shift work. |
