Transparent or glass frogs: The glass or transparent frog is one of the name of a particular frog family. They have semi-transparent skin so we can see their internal organs and they are green or white in color. In some cases we can see the lungs, liver or heart as their skin is transparent and sensitive. Animal classification: Glass Frog Family: Centrolenidae The glass frogs are seen only in the tropical region on the continent of America. They look like as tree frogs and it is very confusing to know that it is a glass frog or tree frog. We can know it only if we look them very closely. There are few differences among them as glass frog's eyes looks forward while tree frog eyes are sideways and their skin are not transparent. Male frog sits on the leaves and then call the females they do not go in the water with male. Instead of they met on the leaf where she deposits her eggs. The male remains there for protecting the egg and females go away then the males called other females. Some males attract other females and they have several egg clutches in various developmental stages. In 1872 the first type of Centrolenidae frog was described by Marcos Jimenez de la Espada base on specimen collected in north-east Ecuador. Afterwards several types of frogs were found by herpetologists in the next year. In 1951, Edward H. Taylor found out the family Centrolenidae. In 1973, John D. Lynch and William E. Duellman, published a large revision of the glass frogs from Ecuador showing the different types of Centrolenidae. In 1991, the herpetologists Pedro Ruiz-Carranza and John D. Lynch published a proposal for a taxonomic classification of the Centrolenidae based on cladistic principles. In 2008 it was found out that there are not 3 genera but one more which named as Nymphargus. For more information click here. See more photos of glass frog: |
