Ignis Innovation, a Canadian company has revealed an AMOLED screen (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) with above 300ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density and a regular RGB matrix. This RGB pixel matrix enabled AMOLED screen includes a pixel circuit and driving scheme. They both equalize the non-uniformity as well as increase the power efficiency of such a high-ppi display. The innovation is like IPS display technology such as Apple’s Retina display however provides improved color quality, superior contrast ratio and wider viewing angles.

The company will license the technology to OEMs as well as it is intimately working to try this new technology on real device. The company considers that this is an important approach to adapt AMOLED screen for tablet computers. This technique bumps off the need for polarizer as well as works as touch screen, power scavenging device and self-calibration unit for non-uniformity/aging. The market availability of first handset or tablet to use RGB pixel matrix enabled AMOLED display with 300ppi pixel density is still unknown.
