Apple Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!aapl/quotes/nls/aapl (AAPL 235.97, 0.00, 0.00%) said on Monday that it sold more than 300,000 iPads in the U.S. as of Saturday at midnight. The sales included deliveries of pre-ordered iPads to customers, deliveries to channel partners and sales at Apple Retail Stores, the Cupertino, California-based company said. Over one million apps from Apple's App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore were sold during the first day, Apple said. Based on longer-than-expected lines at stores and expectations for online preorders, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster had more than doubled his initial first-day sales estimate to between 600,000 and 700,000 units, including preorders, according to the Wall Street Journal. |
