BMW 1 Series coming to India in 2012

To retain its leading position and to meet varied preferences of customers, a leading luxury car maker, BMW is preparing to launch new hatchback in India in the year 2012. But in the international market, this 1-series hatchback with codename of F20 goes on sale by September. Many Indian and international brands are now focusing on small cars. The new 1-series is supposed to be the smallest and cheapest model in the Indian auto market. As per the recent media reports, BMW 2012 will be expected in the price segment of Rs 15 to 20 lakh.

The rear seat of current 1 Series is often criticized, hence BMW finally releases the Hatchback version in 2012 with slightly longer wheelbase and wider track. Also there is an evolution in its design terms. The car comes with exclusive features like fuel-saver start-stop and brake energy regeneration, automatic headlights and lane departure warning along with automatic traffic sign recognition. The 1-series equipped with a six-speed manual or 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. BMW 1 Series comes with the introduction of 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engines in petrol and diesel. The car is expected to be powered by 1.5L petrol and 2.0L diesel engines. New BMW 1 Series cars are rear wheel driven and more use of aluminum makes the car sturdy and light in weight.

Indian launch contain sedan version along with compact hatchback version. Except BMW, other Germany based leading auto giant such as Mercedes Benz and Audi are also planning the launch of A and B class and A1 hatchback respectively in the Indian market.
