Recently, Mercedes-Benz has launched 2014 SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive at the 2012 Paris Motor Show along with two other electric cars. It is dubbed as the fastest electric car of the world. It is the second electric car of the company in the brand's range. It is also the company’s most powerful Mercedes-Benz AMG model. This compact car is pure-electric version which runs on battery power only. It sets a new standard for vehicles with electric drives. This is a zero-emission supercar with advanced technology. It will hit the German markets next year with a price tag of $540,000 (with 19 % tax) which makes it the most expensive road car of Mercedes-Benz. 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the successor of gasoline-engined SLS AMG supercar launched in 2009. It has almost the same exteriors like its predecessors: aluminum and carbon fiber body panels, signature gullwing doors but no exhaust pipes. This car comes with a new “Electric Drive” badge front fender and a controller for the AMG Torque Dynamics system that offers selective drive to individual wheels in 3 different modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. It has somewhat different bumpers and some small changes have been made to the grille styling. It is powered by four electric motors: one at each wheel through an axially-arranged transmission design. This provides fixed four-wheel drive ability to the car. Each motor weighs 99 pounds and churns out 740 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. The car can dash from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and the maximum speed of the car is 155 miles per hour on a single charge. It includes two different gearboxes that give direct drive to every axle. It features 60kWh lithium-ion battery that is located inside the transmission tunnel. The weight of the battery is 1,208 pounds and has 12 different modules (each of 72 cells). SK Innovation, a Korean-based company has supplied these cells. It takes around 20 hours to charge the battery using normal household outlet but it can be decreased to 3 hours via an optional wall box.
