Shane Victorino Ejected from Center Field Video

Shane Victorino was ejected from the Phillies vs. Marlins game in the top of the 7th inning Sunday August 9, 2009 by home-plate umpire Ed Rapuano. He pushed catcher Paul Bako out of the way but was quickly restrained by both Bako and Ryan Howard.

The main reason for the Shane Victorino was ejected was that the center fielder jumped up and waved his arms in anger over what he thought was a bad call on a Lopez pitch. Then Rodrigo Lopez was on the mount he turned around and looks at Rapuano had thrown out Shane Victorino. Shane Victorino was so upset that he needed to be restrained by Paul Bako and Ryan Howard.

Ryan Howard in the bottom of the 6th was rung up on a close full-count fastball that Marlin's starter Josh Johnson called the "pitch of the game." Rapuano was an umpire, and expressing hope that he would not be suspended. Rapuano was determinedly booed by fans as frustrated as the Phillies. Rapuano said that, He gave him the chance to not do it again.

Victorino said that after his first ejection in the big leagues, “I don’t know if we took for granted that the Marlins were playing bad. We kind of went out there with that approach. I’m not saying we didn’t want to go out there and win. We weren’t ourselves this weekend. I don’t think we played up to our potential.” He was never going to bump Rapuano. Marlins was running scared the Phillies 12 to 3 and pull to within four games of Philadelphia in the NL East.
