C.J. Spiller said today he would return for his final season of eligibility at Clemson University rather than enter the NFL Draft.Spiller,a junior from Lake Butler,Fla,took the decision to the wire.The NFL deadline is midnight tonight.One of the most electric offensive players in Clemson history, Spiller was projected as a late first round and early second round pick. He holds Clemson records for career all purpose yardage 4,885 and has scored 30 touchdowns,12 on plays of 50 yards more including two kickoff returns.Spiller has rushed for 2,335 yards in three seasons, caught passes for 915 yards and in 2008 passed for a touchdown.A member of the Clemson track team, Spiller was All American indoors at 60 meters and has run 100 meters in 10.29 seconds.
At a press conference earlier this afternoon, C.J. Spiller announced that he will return for a senior season at Clemson. It was just three years that Spiller held Tiger fans in equal suspense as he decided whether and not to transfer to Florida.Ironically,it was Spiller's mother who convinced C.J. to stick it out at Clemson three years ago. This time around,C.J.revealed,his mother wanted him to go pro.The return is a huge boost to a Clemson offense that will be already be losing James Davis, Aaron Kelly,and Cullen Harper.Next season, Spiller will be the featured back,getting the vast majority of carries ahead of Jamie Harper,next on the depth chart.Spiller has averaged 5.4 yards per carry over the past two years while splitting time with James Davis. This past season, Spiller became a truly multi dimensional back by adding an impressive passing game to his rushing and return numbers.
