Uruguay striker Luis Suarez faces FIFA ban after biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder during his team's 1-0 win at Estadio das Dunas in Natal, Brazil.
Hot topic of FIFA World Cup 2014 – Luis Suarez's biting incident. In the second half of the World Cup soccer match against Italy, Suarez bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder… and it went unnoticed by referees! Chiellini labeled Luis Suarez's behavior as being "ridiculous", and criticized the referee for not penalizing him. Pictures show the bite mark on the shoulder of Chiellini, and pictures even showed Suarez sitting on the ground holding his teeth appeared to be in great pain, right away after the incident. FIFA is investigating the incident, which has become a talking point internationally, and if he is found in violation, he could be banned from the World Cup for the second successive tournament.
No doubt Luis Suárez is an outstanding footballer, but this is the third time he has been involved in biting controversy and accused of using his pearly whites during a game. In November 2010, Suarez (when he played for Ajax) was banned for 7 matches by the Netherlands football federation after biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal. In April 2013, he was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.
