Fabio Capello gave England a boost as they flew out to South Africa tonight by committing himself to the national team until after the 2012 European Championship. The Italian ended weeks of uncertainty by signing an amended two-year contract, with escape clauses for both the manager and the FA removed, before boarding a flight from Heathrow to Johannesburg with his squad. Capello had given a verbal commitment to Lord Triesman last month to the removal of the clause permitting him a two-week period to negotiate with prospective employers after the World Cup, but the former FA independent chairman’s resignation put the new deal in some doubt. |
