Vijay Mallya has gone by the team management’s decision and has made Anil Kumble the Royal Challengers skipper for the rest of the tournament.

The coaching staff, following the veteran legspinner’s performance in the tournament, wanted him to lead following Kevin Pietersen’s departure for England.

Mallya had earlier announced that Kallis would be the captain. However, the allrounder hasn’t been in the best of touch and it is not sure whether he will play in all the games. Mark Boucher, too, was in the fray, but the respect that Kumble commands from everyone in the team went in his favour.

Sources informed that since Kumble is the in-form spinner, he got the nod.

The management had taken the decision to have Kumble as the skipper on Thursday only, but the final nod had to come from Mallya. Once that came, the former India captain was handed over the leadership and it was announced to the team members on Friday before the game.
