In my opinion the awards won't be the most astounding part of the broadcast. Host Jackman tell to the Entertainment Weekly that the mysterious creator plans will be the "more show than business."

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

  • Richard Jenkins The Visitor
  • Frank Langella Frost/Nixon
  • Sean Penn Milk
  • Brad Pitt The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Mickey Rourke The Wrestler

It's basically a two-man race between Penn, who so truly gave Milk a sensitive, goofy charm and smart drive, and Rourke, whose determined and representation by life closely look like his own story. Penn has won , but his politics could massage some of the academy's more traditional members the wrong way..

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

  • Anne Hathaway Rachel Getting Married
  • Angelina Jolie Changeling
  • Melissa Leo Frozen River
  • Meryl Streep Doubt
  • Kate Winslet The Reader

Streep, still going strong at 59, was a little more gimmicky this time, but get a surprising weakness to what could have been played as a one-dimensional character in John Patrick Shanley's play turned Bush era parable about doubtful minds.

Winslet could just as easily have been selected for the unnoticed "Revolutionary Road" as this Holocaust era drama.

BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

  • Josh Brolin Milk
  • Robert Downey Jr Tropic Thunder
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
  • Heath Ledger The Dark Knight
  • Michael Shannon Revolutionary Road

The other guys are very good, particularly Brolin's disagreement city councilman, but there's not anything in any of the acting group as virtuosic as Ledger's.

BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

  • Amy Adams Doubt
  • Penelope Cruz Vicky Cristina Barcelona
  • Viola Davis Doubt
  • Taraji Henson The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Marisa Tomei The Wrestler

A rock-solid category all around, and tough to single out just one presentation. Adams embrace her own between the two towers of Streep and Hoffman. Cruz enlivens in the act of Woody Allen's Spanish love story. Davis is on screen for only 10 minutes, but sheis the touching pivot of the movie's carefully nuanced conflict.

BEST DIRECTOR

  • David Fincher The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Ron Howard Frost/Nixon
  • Gus Van Sant Milk
  • Stephen Daldry The Reader
  • Danny Boyle Slumdog Millionaire

The director's award almost given to the persone who ability the winning film.

Even while Daldry's been voted for all three of the movies is a helmed, the only director with less chance , whose movie in a few scenes. Fincher's give a shot, but his technical act not have heart.

BEST MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR

  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Milk
  • The Reader
  • Slumdog Millionaire

In spite of the other 13 nominations for "Button," the interesting of Ron Howard's "Frost/Nixon," regardless of the late momentum for "The Reader," which basically knock out of the category, this is really between two inspirational message movies.

"Milk" is not only Harvey Milk's rise and deadly fall but also tolerance and pride, hot issues in California, where a hot ban against gay marriage could have an influence on the voting.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

  • Eric Roth ,The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • John Patrick Shanley Doubt
  • Peter Morgan Frost/Nixon
  • David Hare The Reader
