Yahoo Buzz to be Shut Down on April 21

One of the most popular social bookmarking websites, Yahoo Buzz is going to shut down. Few months ago, Yahoo had announced that it will be shutting down the service so it is not much of a surprise. However, now they finally declared a date; Buzz story-rating service of yahoo will not be working more as of April 21, 2011. After that, Yahoo Buzz website will not be accessible for users.

In 2008, Yahoo had launched Yahoo Buzz as a social news aggregator which allowed people to share their buzzing stories on the web. The site was assumed to be a competitor to the websites like Digg and Reddit. However for some strange reasons, the website didn’t gain much popularity like Digg. As Yahoo Buzz failed to attract much popularity from the beginning, yahoo is going to shut it down on April 21.

Last year in December, in a confidential slide that leaked on twitter, it was reported that Yahoo was shutting down numerous of its Web properties, including Yahoo Buzz, Delicious, Yahoo Picks, and AltaVista. At that point, Yahoo confirmed that it would discontinue Yahoo Buzz service however did not provide a timeline. The slide also asserted that shutting down of abovementioned services was essential for the company to return to profit after 2011.
