Posted By firdosh31 on Jan 10, 2011   FROM: thirdage.com report abuse

The annual Girl Scout cookies sale has been officially kicked off, so make order now to get them soon by finding your nearest Girl Scout. Just one time in a year, the annual Girl Scout cookie sale takes place and the entire money raised by sales goes to fund activities and service projects. Through the cookie program, Girl Scouts learn people skills and business ethics, to help leadership development in decision making, goal setting, and money management. Also the proceeds from the cookie sales help improving and maintaining their camps, with recruiting and training volunteer adults to work with girls, along with maintaining events, programs and camp fees reasonable for every member.

This year, the Girl Scout Cookies sale will continue till March, but note that the dates may differ in various regions like sale at local stores from Feb. 18 to March 13, in Eastern Massachusetts on Dec.10 to March 15. Since 1917 members of the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) have been selling cookies to lift up funds and Colorado Girl Scouts alone earned $2.2 million last year.

Eight different types of cookies are available for sale this year at just $3.50 per box, named as Lemon Chalet Cremes, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, Dulce de Leche, Thank U Berry Much, Thin Mints and Trefoils. In this year, Girl Scouts celebrates the 35th birthday of Samoas cookies, the second-best selling range in their arsenal of desserts. You can visit the www.girlscoutcookies.org website for any further or more information. Cookies are sold by girls from individual Girl Scout councils so you can provide the ZIP code at this website to discover the council nearest to you.
