In 1997, Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft with approximately $400 million and later it was re-branded as "MSN Hotmail". The current version, "Windows Live Hotmail", was officially announced in 2005 and released worldwide in 2007.

Windows Live Hotmail features 5GB of storage that expands as necessary, patented security measures, Ajax technology, and integration with Windows Live Messenger, Spaces, Calendar, and Contacts. The Hotmail development and operations teams are based in Mountain View, California.

How to create new Hotmail account

Creating a Hotmail account is so simple here I provide detailed instructions along with screenshots. Once you create a Hotmail account then the same login information (username and password) would let you access other Microsoft Windows Live services.

Step -1: Start the process, first click on www.hotmail.com to get the homepage of the free email service in a web browser. This page look likes the image below and now you have to be looking for is a Sign Up button or link then click on it.

Step-2: Offered a choice, you have two choices to create Hotmail account like Windows Live Hotmail account or get all the Windows Live services (including Hotmail). You can choose whatever you want and click on the Get it button. You can see page image below

Step-3: Create a window live ID and fill up the signup form

First of all enter an ID and check whether it is available. It is important because the ID has to be unique and you can use ID if it has been already exist. You can create your ID like this ID@hotmail.com or your-chosen-ID@live.com.

Step-4: Check ID availability

You can create your ID with combination of your first and last names. If you are creating hotmail account for your business then your company name would be the ideal ID. After creating your ID you have to check your ID availability and to check click on Check Availability button like below image.

Step-5 Choose password

Last but important thing is password. You have to check whether it is strong. What is mean of strong password?

Strong password means a complex password so that people cannot guess it in a few tries. You have to make complex and it shouldn't be your spouse name, husband name or something very obvious.

You can use letters, digits and symbols to create very complex and strong password. This password is your key to all the service of Windows Live. You can check your password availability like below image. You can change your password any time once you create your account.

Step-6 Completing the form to finish the process of making a Hotmail account.

 Step-7 To make a Hotmail account you need to prove you are human

The last step of the Hotmail sign up form requires you to prove you are human by entering the characters you see in the image. This step prevents automated programs in making zillions of Hotmail accounts - a program would certainly have difficulty in deciphering the characters in the image especially when they are wavy and zig-zag.

If you too have trouble in interpreting these characters, click on the reset icon (the one with the two arrows) on the right of the image. A fresh image would load. Alternatively, you can click on the speaker icon to hear an audio file - make sure the speakers on your computer are turned on.

Step- 8 Agree to the terms and conditions

Before you click on the "I Agree" button, go through all your inputs again to ensure the correct submission of the form.

• Check if your net connection is working - try loading another popular web site such as Yahoo! or Google.
• Make sure there is no large download in progress which is hogging all the bandwidth.
• Delete and clean your cache - temporary internet files.
• Try to load the Hotmail page through another web browser. Check out Google's web browser Chrome which I highly recommend. Make sure that its cache is empty too.
• Use a different computer if possible.
• Try using a different internet connection - the fault may lie with the ISP.
