What is life in the ER really like?
Popular television shows like Grey's Anatomy ER would have you believe that emergency rooms are filled with traumas and rare medical cases in a controlled chaos. The reality is that between actually serious cases there are plenty of people that present to emergency rooms with completely ridiculous reasons. One example is the woman who called 911 because she needed her prescription refilled or the man who shoved a light bulb up his rectum.
A new website, ERtards.com allows medical professionals and regular people to post stories of their encounters in emergency rooms around the world. Users post their stories which are then moderated by for submission. The site is not only for medical professionals, there are plenty of dim witted ER staff members as the section on ER Staff shows:
"Our new receptionist Julia, patient presenting complaint..... Pain in Text icles....smart girl this one."
Patients are often just as frustrated with emergency rooms as the people working there so this is also an excellent venue for them to vent their frustrations. The site documents some pretty outrageous stories that would not be appropriate to post in this article. So be warned that this is an uncensored view at the world of emergency medicine.
Here is another example of what can be found at ERtards.com:
"Got an ambulance patch for a 40ish male who got intoxicated, walked outside and dropped his pants to pee, passed out and fell face first in a pile of dog feces. Gives the word "shitfaced" a whole new meaning!"
