Neurofibromatosis is also known as von Recklinghausen’s syndrome. Neurofibromatosis is a very rare genetic disorder which affects mainly the nervous system. This disorder affects the growth and development of the nervous tissues and later causes tumors known as neurofibromas and other abnormalities like bone deformities and skin disorders. It is of two types namely: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). Neurofibromatosis is mainly caused due to genetic factors or hereditary factors. it can be due to the mutation of the genetic material in either the sperm or the egg. The major symptoms of Neurofibromatosis include: growth of tumor on the nerves, poor balance, facial pain, headache, numbness due to pressure of tumors, curvature of the spine, hearing loss and deformity in bones. The skin disorders also occur, such as: freckles, skin discoloration or appearance of patches in skin and growth of non cancerous tumors under the skin. |
