Neurodermatitis Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Neurodermatitis is a common form of eczema and is also identified as Local Scratch Dermatitis or Lichen Simplex Chronicus. It is not a serious problem but coming out of the itch-scratch cycle is pretty daring. This is caused mainly when the nerves ending with the skin gets irritated and normally seen in forearm, thighs, neck etc. Women between the ages 25 and 50 are comparatively more prone to get this disorder than men.

The causes of Neurodermatitis are not known still. However, it is caused due to an insect bite, heat, tight clothing, poor blood flow and emotional stress. It can also be caused due to other skin disorders as well. The main symptoms of Neurodermatitis are: itchy sensations, strong urge to scratch the skin, leathery or scaly skin and a raised darker patch of skin. Scratching can result in scaly or reddish skin, visible scratch marks, and darkened skin and finally the skin becomes thick.
