Mary Cassatt National Gallery of Art. Mary Cassatt was an American Painter and Artist. Mary Cassatt was studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art form 1861 to 1864 before poignant to Europe to persist her teaching. National Gallery of Art, director Earl A. Powell III said, “Mary Cassatt represents the first complete investigation of the artist’s work to be shown since the National Gallery’s 1970 exhibition.” The exhibition was prepared by the Art Institute of Chicago in cooperation with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington. The demonstration was made probable by the support of Aetna. The most comprehensive survey in more than 25 years of the works of Mary Cassatt, one of the foremost painters of the late 19th century, will be on outlook in the Gallery's East Building during 6th September 1999. The National Gallery is one of the richest repositories of Cassatt's oeuvre, with a total of 119 paintings, drawings, and prints.
