You can tell it’s nearly Christmas, as lunchtimes have suddenly become a lot more exciting. Sandwich chains and supermarkets have already started offering festive ranges. Turkey and cranberry fillings abound, but there are plenty of more adventurous offerings – not least Sainsbury’s Christmas Dinner Wrap, which combines slices of smoked bird with chipolatas, bacon and sage and onion stuffing in a flour tortilla. Even Waitrose has come up with a yuletide special, a pastie promising “all the flavours of Christmas without the painstaking preparation”. |
