Any decade responsible for The Spice Girls, Ally McBeal, New Labour and the return of Manchester United needs to take a long, hard look at itself. But the Nineties was also a force of much good. It brought us TV shows such as South Park, The Simpsons, Baywatch, The X-Files and Seinfeld. OK, so technically Seinfeld and The Simpsons began just before 1990, but this no time to get bogged down in technicalities. We are only dealing with sweeping generalisations today. Music? Well, it was the decade which saw the rise of Teen Spirit and Britpop, while at the cinema the movies were just as crap as they were in the Eighties. Told you we were only dealing with sweeping generalisations. |
