A 3rd alternative explanation for House's problems
Perhaps House is a drug addict and slightly nuts...but that may not be what is really wrong with him.
It is after all a medical series. Maybe he has a medical disease and perhaps the twist is that this disease is eventually diagnosed.
Consider some clues: House is adopted and maybe needs to dig into his family history, he had a leg infarct, and atypically develops psychosis late, not early in life.

Kutner can't come back
The guy that played Kutner (Kal Penn) left the show because he accepted a position in the White House under Obama's administration. He will be the Associate Director in the White House office of Public Liaison. That is why they had to end his character so abruptly.

You're too stupid to watch House
I have to agree with the post I found here regarding House leaving the show. House is here for the run of the show...
Next I wouldn't expect Cuddy and House to get to close. Part of what makes that relationship work is the sexual energy between them...The writers would be fools to let them get together...talk about jumping the shark!
The question for season 6 has to be how will House practice after his trip to the hospital! Is it insanity or drugs causing his problem? I also seem to recall Cuddy telling House that he could not practice if it was insanity or drug addiction... quite the corner they writers have painted themselves in.
Also, how will House be viewed by his peers if it is drug addiction?
You can only cure so many people and have X amounts of quick witted quips before the show runs it course. I don't look for a season 7 of House...If they don't jump the shark this season, I will be surprised.
Last! If you want to know what season 6 is going to be about, simply as yourself what questions did season 5 leave unanswered! We all know that we have to find out:
1. IS House a drug addict or a nut...
2. It's all about House...how will he practice again.
3. House's team depends on him...do you think they might still use him as a resource, even though he's in a hospital? ... He might be a nut case, but he's not stupid!
4. How will Cuddy react to the team if the do use House?
5. Will Wilson play an active role in the recovery or treatment of House, if so what?
Just a few of the things the writers will have to address... DUH! So there is a glimps at season 6...you can all relax now....The sub-plots will just add fluff.
If you didn't have this much figured out, your too stupid to watch House...you most likely will miss most of the under the table humor anyway...so take a pill and chill...at least you can quote House at work and look smart...

Stupid..
To everyone saying stuff like "I hope House comes back" or "Will House be back in the show again?"..
Of course he'll be back, for the simple reason:
The show is called HOUSE.
They can hardly make a Season let alone a single show without the main character who also happens to lend his surname to the title of the series.
It'd be like making a Transformers movie, except without alien robots it features some guy whose wife gets kidnapped by terrorists and his fight to rescue said wife..
Unless the writers decide to call the show Minus House.. Or something else as equally unrealistic, no fans have anything to worry about.
Including me..

I mean, come on. I was so upset when I found out that House didn't even sleep with her, let alone have her look after him. That was my favourite part of the episode!!!!! Now he's fired and in some random mental hospital. This can not be how it will end. I hope he gets out by the beginning of season six and Cuddy offers him his job back. I hope Cuddy and House end up together in the end. It's the only reason Huddy fans are still watching the show.
