The world's longest running drama on television and radio history “Guiding Light” (known as The Guiding Light prior to 1975, or simply GL) has already aired its final episode on Friday September 18th 2009 at 3 p.m, ending a 72 year run. Here is a preview of America’s daytime drama’s Guiding Light final episode.

At the town of “Springfield” everyone comes together for the last episode of the U.S. soap opera "Guiding Light". The show was started as a NBC Radio serial on January 25, 1937, the story of three families of town Springfield, USA but in 1952, it moved to television and broadcast more than 15,000 episodes. It has been called as the “world's longest-running television drama” by Guinness World Records.

The series was being canceled due to low ratings announced by CBS on April 1, 2009. It was scheduled to release final episode on CBS on September 18, 2009 because the show taped its final scenes on August 11, 2009.

Guiding Light Final & Last Episode Recap:

The plot focused on the residents of the town of Springfield including the Spaulding, Cooper and the Lewis families. In this final episode, Josh Lewis and Reva Shayne- the main character who decided to marry "again", then drive off in Josh's vintage pickup truck on an unnamed escapade.
