Pune shuts till August 23 due to swine flu

Swine flu has caused several deaths in the country, and the virus seems to be spreading at a fast pace. Several cases of swine flu have become in schools across major cities, so in view of swine flu situation all schools, colleges, and cinema halls, shopping malls, private classes in Pune will remain closed till August 23, decided by The Maharashtra government.

Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar said that where huge crowds gather, increasing the risk of spread of the A (H1N1) virus, all these places will shuts till August 23 means seven to ten days. And also multiplexes and cinema halls shall be closed for the next three days while malls shall remain shutting for a week.

"The decision came in the wake of a high-level meeting organized by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, authorising the district administrations to take appropriate steps in the matter," Ajit Pawar said. The minister held a meeting of the district's top civil, police, health and education officials following the announcement. The decisions were pressed by the third swine flu death in the city -- and fourth in the state in one week.

Swine flu's first victim was a Pune girl then, a woman and two men, including a medico and a teacher from Maharashtra. The total number of swine flu deaths in the country is raised day by day. Nagpur’s woman succumbed to the disease in Singapore.

Two more Mumbai schools - St. Dominic Savio National Open School in Andheri East and Arya Vidya Mandir School in Juhu were shut for a week. After two students were found positive in the Andheri School and one in the Juhu School.

According to officials, the infected students have been admitted to a government health centre. After some of students were detected with H1N1 virus, the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Bandra-Kurla Complex and the J.B. Vachha School, Matunga, were shut for a week.
