Heavy Traffic Expected During McNair Funeral
Thousands of people are expected to attend Steve McNair’s memorial service Thursday evening, impacting traffic around Nashville. Metro police urge people to arrive at Mt. Zion Baptist Church early and be aware of traffic delays on I-24 and Old Hickory Boulevard northwest of downtown. Metro police officers and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers will be monitoring traffic flow on both the interstate and Old Hickory Boulevard and will be working to keep vehicles moving. Rush hour traffic on I-24 Thursday afternoon is expected to be particularly heavy, as the visitation/viewing at the church begins at 3:45 p.m. and continues until 6:45 p.m. The right shoulder of the interstate will be used for traffic exiting onto Old Hickory Boulevard. The memorial service is scheduled from 7 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. Traffic delays should be expected as people leave the church and travel back to the interstate. Metro police officers will ensure the safe transportation of McNairs body from the funeral home to the church and back. |
