Serena got treatment at perfect time and now she is resting and recovering at home under doctor's care. She has participated in many tennis tournaments like US Open, French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon, but maybe she will withdraw from it due to her ongoing treatment for Pulmonary Embolism.

In pulmonary embolism condition, blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs which may become more dangerous in severe cases. According to Dr. Mark Adelman, chief of vascular surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center, "Patient with a pulmonary embolism, or blood clot in the lung, would need to take an anticoagulant for 6-12 months but could play sports on the medication".

As per the Williams statement given by her after discharged from hospital, “This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better. I’m at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control. I know I will be O.K., but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon. While I can’t make any promises now on my return, I hope to be back by early summer. That said, my main goal is to make sure I get there safely".

Last year the winner of 13 Grand slam title, Serena had not played Wimbledon official match as a result of foot injury when she stepped on broken glass. The younger sister of Serena, seven-time major champion Venus Williams had surgery after primarily hurting her foot and pulled out of the U.S. Open. In January 2011 she missed the Australian open.

Serena also supports charities like 'Build African School' which helps the African children for education and 'Hearts of Gold' which helps the homeless population in New York.
