"Sap" features lauded guests from the Seattle music scene, including Ann Wilson of Heart, Chris Cornell, then of Soundgarden, and Mark Arm of Mudhoney. "Jar of Flies" built on the exploratory sound of its predecessor, showcasing a softer sound and introducing arrangements and instruments previously unheard on any Alice in Chains' material.
