Jamshed-e-Navroz Parsi new year | Parsi new Year SMS & Greetings

Jamshed-e-Navroz is a Parsi New Year. This festival is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Zoroastrian year. Today (19th August) is a Pateti and it is the first evening of the Parsi New Year and next day is called Novroz. Parsi New Year was named after the legendary King of Persia, Jamshed who started the Parsi Calendar.

This is the 21st Parsi New Year. The day coincided with the vernal equinox meaning equal day and equal night. The day also marks the transition from winter to summer.

As a community Zoroastrians are respected for two distinct traits – their honesty and philanthropy, which tie in with the religion’s core beliefs of good thoughts, good words and good deeds. Jamshed-e-Navroz is a festival symbolizing the spirit of friendship, happiness and harmony.

Parsi wear new Clothes and wear gold and silver kustis and caps. They decorate their houses with auspicious symbols like stars, butterflies, birds and fish. They welcome guests by sprinkling rose water and rice and by applying tilak.

Foods forms an important part of their festivities. They make a ‘Ravo’ for breakfast which is prepared from suji, milk and sugar. They make most traditional drink during this time is falooda from milk and flavored rose water. People visit fire temple or Agiary for a special thanks giving prayer called, ‘Jashan’. And After the ceremony, people greet each other by saying, ‘Sal Mubarak’.
