Naomi Sims died at age of 61. Naomi Sims was born in Mississippi and grew up in Pittsburgh. She was the first African American model. She got worldwide fame in the sixties. Naomi increased rapidly to the top of the fashion world. She died on Saturday in Newark at age of 61 years due to suffering from cancer. Her appearance as the first black model on the cover of ‘Ladies’ Home Journal in November 1968 was an expert moment of the Black is beautiful movement.

Sims was the writer of five books on fitness, beauty, success and "How to be a Top Model" for the Black woman. She earned her reputation as the foremost expert on health and beauty for the Black woman from her writing. She felt proud because her collection available for Black women. She told that there was nothing sadder than an old, broke model.

She was the part of “Black is Beautiful Movement”. Naomi Sims death brought sadness to the World of modeling and fashion. Sims launched a successful wig-making business, spark a productive enterprise by designing hairstyles designed specifically at African American women. She was married to Manhattan art dealer Michael Findlay in 1973.
