Lady Gaga released the album “Born This Way” on 23rd May. Lady Gaga sets the record with the help of Amazon.com as it sold the copy of album for just 99 cents on last Tuesday and Thursday. The US singer, Lady Gaga has topped the Billboard 200 album chart. “Born This Way” is the seventeenth album to sell 1m copies in its 1st week. Amazon.com helps the sales to boost almost 3 times of initial estimates by Universal Music Group.
Amazon sold 440,000 copies of the album. 662,000 is total downloads of the album from all digital retailers. Gaga becomes the 5th female artist to record a 1 million+ sales a week following Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Norah Jones and Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" is the last one million-selling album (last November). Before the Amazon promotion, the music industry observers had expected the album sales between 650,000 and 700,000 copies. To steal business from Apple iTunes, Amazon carried out the money losing promotion.
