Up soars again at the US box office

In a less-than-shocking development, Pixar has cranked out another winner, with Up holding on to the top of the box office for a second weekend with $44.2 million.

Dropping just 35%, the film has nudged its take up to $137 million in the US, and looks likely to be one of the year’s top earners, especially when it arrives international (we get it in October).

But there was very good news for The Hangover, which won the battle of the comedies, besting Land Of The Lost to gain a superb $43 million.

Will Ferrell’s Lost, meanwhile, had to settle for third and $19.5 million. Fourth place went to Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian, with a respectable $14.6 million in its third week.

Fifth place went to Star Trek, which finally began to slide down the charts. It added $8.4 million for a $223 million running US total.

Your top 10 in chart form…

Up ($44.2 million) The Hangover ($43.2 million) Land Of The Lost $19.5 million) Night At The Museum 2 ($14.6 million) Star Trek ($8.4 million) Terminator Salvation ($8.2 million) Drag Me To Hell (7.3 million) Angels & Demons ($6.5 million) My Life In Ruins ($3.2 million) Dance Flick ($2 million)
