Cormac McCarthy is a very private character (gregarious loner) that lives over in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It's a violent film, or moreover, it's a study of order and chaos. There's a sherriff that is troubled with the understanding of madness and a world that seems to be creeping closer to its extreme. One thing that helps the film maintain its portrayal of reality or the possibility that something like this could happen, or that someone like Chigurh is out there--is the lack of a soundtrack.
